Online Marketing

Are you ready to dive into the digital realm and spread your message far and wide across the interwebs? Online marketing offers endless opportunities to connect with customers old and new. From viral videos to targeted ads, the online space is booming with ways to promote your brand.

What Exactly Is Online Marketing?

Let’s start with the basics.

In simple terms, it’s promoting your business through digital channels like websites, social media, email, search engines, and more.

The goal is to raise brand awareness, drive traffic to your site, and ultimately boost sales. With search engines like Google and platforms like Facebook at our fingertips, online marketing lets you reach massive audiences around the globe.

Key Online Marketing Terms – Let’s Get To Know A Few

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Tweaking your website to rank higher in organic search results on Google, Bing, etc. Things like keywords, content, and link building all factor into SEO.
  • Social Media Marketing: Engaging your audience and spreading the word through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and beyond.
  • Content Marketing: Creating engaging, shareable content like blogs, videos, infographics, ebooks – you name it! Great content is key to online success.
  • Email Marketing: Using newsletters and targeted emails to communicate directly with subscribers and drive them back to your site.
  • Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising: Placing ads on search engines and social media through paid programs like Google Ads and Facebook Ads. You only pay when people click.

Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty designing an online marketing plan. The first step is understanding your target audience.

Who are you trying to reach – what are their interests, demographics, pain points? Get into their shoes and think like them.

Setting Up Measurable Goals

Are you looking to increase website traffic, social followers, email subscribers or conversions?

Getting specific helps you track success. Don’t just aim for “more sales” – set a target number or percentage increase.

Audit your online presence. Take a look at your website, social profiles, digital ads – is your branding and messaging consistent? Are you highlighting the right keywords and calls-to-action? An audit helps identify any weak points to strengthen.

But how do you measure your results? Simple, you may want to look into using a tool such as s ahrefs or Semrush to gain better insights into your online marketing campaigns.

Getting Started and Having Fun

While online marketing can be filled with some challenges along the way as you begin, the most important thing to remember is to have fun with it. Don’t make your online marketing attempts feel like a chore you hated as a kid growing up.

Begin by creating awesome content! Blog posts, videos, infographics – unleash your creativity. But remember, everything must provide value to your audience. Answer their questions, solve their problems, and educate as well as entertain them. Great content is shared content, so make sure it’s optimized for social sharing too.

Don’t forget about email! Develop nurturing email sequences to gently guide leads down the sales funnel.

And be sure to promote your content through paid and organic social posting. Hashtags, compelling captions and engaging with followers are social media marketing musts. Of course, if you get stuck there are several amazing AI tools available to help you gain more traction.

Of course, measuring results is key. Are your goals being hit? Track analytics for key metrics like website traffic, leads generated, and conversions.

A/B test content and ads to see what resonates best. Pivot strategies that aren’t performing and double down on winning techniques.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach – you’ll need to experiment to discover what really works for your business online. But with strategy, top-notch content and a little marketing moxy, the digital possibilities are endless. I hope these tips give you a solid foundation to get started. Now go forth and conquer the online world!

Now let’s move on to some more interesting ideas to help you with your online marketing campaigns.

Optimizing Your Content for Social Sharing

Now that you’re on the right path of creating engaging content, it’s time for the world to see it.

But how do you get them to engage with you? That’s a super question. Let’s take a look at some ideas below.

  • Use compelling headlines and captions. Keep them short (under 100 characters) but attention-grabbing.
  • Include high-quality images and videos. Visual content performs much better than plain text on social media.
  • Optimize images for each platform. Square dimensions work best on Instagram while wider images are better for Facebook.
  • Add social sharing buttons/icons. Make it easy for people to share your posts with a single click of a button.
  • Incorporate hashtags strategically. Use 3-5 relevant, popular hashtags to reach new audiences on each platform.
  • Divide long-form content into snackable chunks. Break it up with images, videos, subtitles etc. to keep people engaged.
  • Ask questions and invite comments/replies. Interactions increase the chances of sharing.
  • Write for skimmers. Summarize the key points at the top so the premise is clear without needing to read it all.
  • Publish at optimal days/times. Analyze your analytics to see when your followers are most active online. I’ll be covering this a bit more in the next section.
  • Promote a clear call-to-action like “Share if you agree” or “What are your thoughts?”. Make it easy to invite sharing.
  • Consider boosting top posts. A small budget for promotion can significantly increase organic reach and shares.

Creating Captions That Grab Attention – Master Your Online Marketing

We all know that the vast majority of people who engage with online content, including ourselves, usually are drawn in by the captions that appear on an image thumbnail. That usually is the quickest way to draw in your potential audience.

What are a few things you should focus upon when beginning this process? Don’t worry, I have you covered.

  • Pose intriguing questions. Captions like “How did they build this??” spark curiosity.
  • Share surprising facts or stats. Counterintuitive statements catch the eye, like “You’ll never guess what’s the #1…”
  • Tell a story in just a few lines. Introduce a character and situation people want to learn more about.
  • Highlight specific details. Zooming in on the most eye-catching visual element makes viewers look closer.
  • Compare or contrast ideas. Phrases like “This vs that” or “Then vs now” promote engagement.
  • Use humor when appropriate for your brand. Puns, funny observations, and witty captions can increase shares.
  • Make bold, conversational claims. Controversial statements like “This is the best…” get a reaction.
  • Tease with just a glimpse. Leave some mystery by only revealing part of the story or image.
  • Show an emotional side. Captions addressing feelings like hope, nostalgia or motivation are relatable.
  • Add relevant hashtags and location tags. This helps more people discover your post.
  • Keep it brief at 1-2 sentences max. Short, punchy captions are more likely to be read.

The goal is capturing attention immediately so viewers stop scrolling. Test different styles to see what resonates best for your audience.

Best Times To Publish Your Online Marketing Content

This by far is one of the areas that can become a bit challenging in the beginning, however, with time and watching your measured results based upon your traffic, you’ll soon figure out when is the best time to publish your online marketing content.

However, I am going to provide you with a few suggestions based on what has been widely accepted as the industry norms.

Here are the suggest times for a few of the major social networking sites below:

  • Facebook: Tuesday-Thursday between 1-3pm and 6-9pm are peak engagement times. Weekends between 2-5pm also tend to perform well.
  • Instagram: Weekday afternoons like 1-3pm see higher organic reach. Weekend usage is more spread out through the day.
  • Twitter: Engagement jumps Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm, with slower weekends. Tweet timing varies by industry/audience though.
  • LinkedIn: Early mornings (7-9am) and evenings (6-8pm) on weekdays when professionals are commuting or winding down.
  • Pinterest: Usage spikes on weekends and weekdays from 11am-1pm and 6-8pm. Cater your Pins to meal prep, hobby, and craft inspiration.
  • YouTube: Videos published in mornings (around 10am-noon) tend to get more initial views compared to evenings. Consider audience’s location too.
  • TikTok: Afternoons/evenings see the most usage, with 1-4pm and 8-11pm being peak times for views and shares.

Test publishing at different times and analyze your insights to see what generates the best return for your niche/industry. Consistency is also key – choose posting schedules your followers can reliably expect new content.
